Bought this book for my son who is in high school and wants to study something related to neuroscience, ie neurosugery or neurology and has been reading it consistently. Driving me a little crazy explaining the book to me but I am happy to hear him.
This clinical neurology book appears intended to help someone transition from the 2nd year med student-level to about 4th year student or intern level. Non-neurology clinicians may also find it an easy and informative read. Everything is very simplified (a good thing) and there is selective emphasis of high-yield information (also a good thing). I haven't tried out the accompanying CD yet so I won't speak to that. The book is advertised as a simple and effective preview and review of neuroanatomy. That, it is.
This was one of those few books where just about every line of information was useful. As a 4th year student matching into anesthesiology, I still have a really solid understanding of neuroanatomy that has not left me from reading this book. Most things that you read in other books are loaded with unnecessary extra information or presented in a confusing way. I recommend other books and medical school lectures to supplement this book's cartoony illustrations, which are helpful for the "big picture," but not entirely sufficient on their own.
I think the first three chapters were very helpful when I first talked this material. I have friends that say the second half is also worth reading as well but to me I got the most out of those initial chapters. I can't comment on the rest of the book but I think some of the simple illustrations are great and some could be updated a bit.
This book is tiny compared to the amount of neuro that one learns in medical school. It is most certainly a companion type book to be used with a textbook. I would not try to use this as a comprehensive type of review. It is not nearly as good as the Microbiology made ridiculously simple.
Some people talk about this book like it is a saving grace for medical neuroanatomy. While it does cover important applications of the material, it omits quite a large chunk of material that was tested in our course, and will probably be on boards, too. If you're looking for a quick-and-easy way to get a B on your exam, you'll be disappointed.
This is an exceptionally well organized and concise book for neuroanatomy.The book itself is light and condense which would be perfect for quick reference or basic study. The questions after each chapters is carefully designed to aid understanding.As most reviewers has previously stated,Goldberg did a great job with this book.Definitely recommended for any interested individuals to clinicians.
Great book; this was recommended to me by one of my Professors who went through the very same communication disorders program I am going through. I bought this and relied heavily on it to supplement my neuro Professors power points and for the very clear pictures. Very good book. Strongly recommend it!
